Full speed ahead

G’day,

Internet/Phone has been fixed – now on a 7Mbs connection speed …. which really translates as 700kbs+ download.  And that means I can now upload a DVD version.   But I’ve been fiddling with User puppy for a little too long – learning a lot more about bash scripting.  Anyway the upshot is that I’ve been a little slack getting organised for remastering the DVD version.  Left out Xamp for the time being – seems like I’ve been adding more and more stuff instead of a viable Operating System – jeez! I’m doing a Microsoft!  How big is Win7? bout 7GBs!?  Well hello Redmond!

Anyhow, I’m intending to remaster in the next couple of days (that really translates into the next couple of mths) and upload asap! mmm…

Pizzagoods goodies for multiuser puppy was compiled for Puppy 4+.  However, I’ve got the scripts which may be helpful to get extra functions such as mounting partitions and external devices….

All menus have been updated with the new apps and I’m slowly continuing to add to the Help files even if some haven’t been linked yet…

Cheers

Martin

Mild improvements

G’day,

A little love for old skool and admins…. dosbox with dosbox-gui for those old DOS apps.  And XAMMP works; quite happy with this due to my troubles with LAMP (which is compiled for a later kernel)!  Having a little trouble with configuring php; it’s working but phpadmin screen comes up as an error.  Let’s just put that down to my incompetence…..

A couple of extra games which I’ve fallen for…. picpuz, DukeNukem3D (lol), Quake and d2x – all these games don’t need a graphics card to operate.

Am considering a DVD ripping App; which strangely I don’t have – only the basic one in K3b.  But that’s an extra 100mbs … mmm!

Cheers

Martin

PS. For the User Desktop there’s a log in window for Username and Password – using XDM.  User: Puppy Password: woof.  Desktop looks good with that; now need to experiment with Pizzagoods (Puppy Linux Forum) utilities to make it more usable…

Briefs…

G’day,

Getting Internet fixed next week… Yay!  So the next version, a tweeked/bugfixed version will be available ….soon….. I hope….

Not sure if I’ve already posted that Picasa is not in the Menu…. which it isn’t…

Also, going through the Installed Apps I notices that a very easy to use vnc-server (has a easy to set-up script) and vnc-viewer are available and that Tor/Privoxy with an easy Interface is also there …. well I’m adding those to the Menu.  I know that Tor and Privoxy works – may need a little script to open a port in the Firewall for Tor and a script that automatically sets up the Proxy port for Privoxy in the Web Browser.

Still considering adding Hiawatha (which works) to PUE but not until I know that mysql will run as well.  Lurking in my Repositories I’ve found versions of MYSQL that I know works but on kernel 2.6.19.7 is unknown (might be compiled specifically for another kernel).

Guess I do want to make this a truly ultimate version as I’m getting some nice comments about PUE, and want to make something worthwhile and useful for people to use…

Oh and slowly adding to Help!

Cheers

Martin

Give a little bit

G’day,

Having diabolical probs with Internet – awaiting technician to fix the wiring……

Slowly updating the rather interesting Help file – basically a reference for new Linux Users to provide an overview for what the App does; and a few hints and tips.

Working on a small utility app so the User can make their own wbars – looks promising….

Pointing a number of programmes towards /home directory and not /root

Considering adding an experimental non-administrative Desktop – that means any App that can modify or download or create a file (docs, graphics, music, file manager, etc…) will be started as User “Spot” – only Pupians will understand this.  This will add an extra layer of security for the User and System.  As I was considering this at an earlier stage most of the scaffolding has already been done – so I just need to point the launchers/menus to those scripts to start those Apps.

Updated Java so had to change the Java license to Oracle and removed the Sun MicroSystems version.  Am considering updating Flash to the latest version but needs to test this on a “live” version.

Indeed I would like to provide an updated version of PUE but this will need to wait until my Internet connection issues have been fixed.

Cheers

Martin

PS.  If I disappear off the radar means that I’m Internetless….
