Messed the remaster..

G’day,

I forgot to not include the majority of fonts in the remaster – after uploading and MD5 checking I loaded it onto my old clunker – and it took ages to load.  Ah!  Same problem as last month…

I have now remastered a new Live CD will test it today on the old clunker.  Then upload and MD5 test.

Cheers

Martin

PS. I’m a little slow…..

Alpha remaster completed

G’day,

Need to finish my shift before proceeding (tomorrow morning); but will test on my old clunker to see if it installs on that (acid test).  If that goes well then I will upload to Mediafire and should be available Thursday….. I hope!

First start of KDE will not show any Splash but subsequently loadings will.  Anyway, will continue the Help Section ball and chain.

Cheers

Martin

Fixes before remastering

G’day,

The remasters I previously did worked but there were a few annoying flaws…

  1. KDE did not work!
  2. Some of the install scripts did not work (properly)

Also, assisting a friend, who was flooded, get a computer working also cut into my time.

Well the bugs above have been fixed and (hopefully!!!!) should have everything ready to go by the w’end.  I reckon that a few delays are better than releasing something that causes headaches.  And KDE not working was a biggie!  There are startup up scripts in /etc that are not automatically put in a remaster.  So I’ve included them in the extra data file.

Despite clearing up the few issues, I still could not get hal to work for opening usb media on the remaster; even though it works in the developmental  environment.  I have got a workaround that needs to be tested….

Well that’s the current status on this project.

Cheers

Remastering delays

G’day,

was not happy with the results of remastering – twice dvd became unstable.  So I’ve gone back to reducing size to CD with an extra data file.  Will test these asap then upload if tests came out ok.

Had to rework the Installer a little  as well.  Starting 7 day shift tomorrow, disappointed that I did not get to upload remaster for testing…

Cheers

A bit more developing

G’day,

Quick update… Been working on the “Getting Started” and “About K” sections.  Enjoying the process as it takes some creativity to make a useful Help section.  Completed about 20 applications in the past few days.  Put my back out (a bit painful) has hampered me a little.

I’m still planning to remaster and release (for testing) a version of PuppyTLC this weekend – I don’t have the time or resources to test, other than some level 2 testing.  So I will be sending it forth into Puppy land for intrepid testers to find those nasty bugs.

I’ve set up an Invision forum so testers can report  bugs and/or suggest bugfixes; or even suggest an addition or subtraction to the project.  The Forum can be found at:

http://s15.invisionfree.com/PuppyTLC/index.php

I haven’t set it up properly, as I’ve only just created it.

Cheers

Martin

Optimised and buggered!

G’day,

Optimised Backgrounds and Menu.  Completed Menu Screenshots and “the word of the day” optimised the KDE part of this OS.  I’m not sure but I must have done over 250 screenshot.  At this point in time I’m simply just interested in getting the testing started and start bug fixing.  While this is being done, hopefully by some volunteers, I will continue creating the ‘Getting Started’ Help stuff.

So this week I will do a remaster (DVD size) and upload it to my Mediafire account.  The local version will be CD size (with an extra sfs file) due to it being older hardware and less likely to have a DVD reader.  I hope this will make it easier for people to install and test.

What is nice is that the KDE automounter works nicely after a brief “permission denied” bug was fixed.

The KDE side looks very cool “a guys very cool” and may not be as appealing to female student users.  But will keep it like this unless told outright that is sux….

Cheers

Martin

PS.  I’m actually champing at the bit to restart Ultimate; but will wait until PuppyTLC is finished, as it will be the “perfect base” to work with.
