Release Day!

G’day,

I have posted on the Puppy Linux Forum site the release details for PuppyTLC-alphaRC. This is not a completed release as thorough testing needs to occur. Also, I need to wrok on the Help Section.

Here’s the link to the Post on the Forum:

Glitch fixed…

G’day,

The glitch was fixed on the data file – uploaded and tested a download and join sequence.  Have the links which I will place in the OS installer and then remaster – weekend release is looking good!

Cheers

Martin

PS. After this release will work again on Ultimate Puppy – it won’t be as extensive as there was a number of duplicated applications and it’s hard to justify using 6.5 gigs for an OS!!!  But it’ll be a fun experience – as I personally will be using Ultimate as my primary OS – I already have a pseudo-Ultimate Puppy as my primary OS.  I plan to release Ultimate as progressive project – adding useful applications piece-meal onto a seriously complete system ( maybe a 6 mth cycle or something).

PPS. Ah I believe I should show a screenshot of PuppyTLC – might be nice.  I’ll have one later today….

Glitch – 24hr delay

G’day,

Small problem with the data file – just need to create new squash file upload then remaster with new download links and test.  God! I hope it’s ready by the weekend!

Cheers

Martin

pre-RC Bug Fix

G’day,

Bug fix before RC is available.
xmms-1.2.10 overwrote these libs with older versions:

libssl.so.0.9.8
libcrypto.so.0.9.8
libdrm.so.2
libGL.so.1
libfaad.so.0
libesd.so.0
At this point libssl and libcrypto were the critical ones that interferred with claws-mail – as yet testing has not shown further problems – regressed the changes
karbon – missing lingomp.so.1 – libkarbon then became an issue – despite numerous replacements unable to resolve – removed karbon from menu.
Xine replaced as primary video player due to its simple gui – this replaces mPlayer – added additional skins + addition to wbar
resolved gcompris voices issue (assetml-voices-alphabet-en missing) – altered links from FR (which worked fine).
dict not installed
Lincity dropped out of X on exit – tested with Direct Rendering on – no changed – removed

Uploaded split data-file to the Mediafire account – once links have been confirmed and installation proceeds without too many problems then will remaster for an Alpha-RC. The data file downloader only downloads the split files (three of them) in series rather than in parallel as I have found that if the 3rd download completes before the others the join operation occurs regardless of completed downloads. This results in a dodgy file!

Hopefully will be uploading the Alpha-RC iso soon!

Cheers
Martin

I will complete a bug-fixed and then re-remaster with a new data.sfs file.  Then, alas I will split and upload and hope it works out well.

Remastering Take 1

G’day,

Remastered PuppyTLC and created data.sfs to be added but having issues with uploading to the MEdiafire account – probably due to the size – my internet connection seems to reset after either a period of time or an amount of uploading.  I have tried to avoid it but I may need to split the files.  I have avoided this option as last Ultimate Edition Release had a flaw with the split files.  Well at least this time there’s only 6 files to split/join – will thoroughly test this before announcing for testers – probably Wednesday at the earliest barring upload errors.

Anyway this is a most likely a good thing as I have completed a level 1 and partial level 2 test on the software and found a few crucial and annoying bugs.  These will be fixed before the next remaster.

Next post will be an outline on the packages that created PuppyTLC; so I can compress and coalesce all the information that’s spread over many pages of notes.

Cheers

Martin
